Assassin's Creed Reveals Surprising AoT Crossover for Holiday Season
In a surprising collaboration that breaks usual forecasts, Ubisoft has announced an virtual collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event runs from November 25 through December 22, providing free additional story content for Shadows players.
Strange Adventure Revealed
According to the authorized announcement, "A mysterious encounter leads characters Naoe and Yasuke into a original quest, where rumors of prohibited ceremonies and fearsome metamorphoses resonate through the obscurity." The plot features a "unusually garbed woman named Ada" who charges the pair with journeying into the Crystalline Cavern—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her ally from a hidden sect.
The adventure focuses on "strange trials and a monstrous enemy" and is open to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.
Iconic Settings and Changes
The trailer features the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This important location was earlier where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through eras. The teaser ends with a dramatic sequence showing a character, probably the captive, transforming into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.
Special Items and Bonus Material
Players who finish the quest will acquire an unique katana together with several artifacts secreted throughout the area in secret chests. The update also includes in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:
- Titan-based attire for Yasuke
- Mikasa costume for Naoe
- Special implements
- Survey Corps mount
Newest Free Story Update
This update also brings the game's third free story addition, titled "A Puzzlement." This lighthearted quest teams Naoe and Yasuke as they trade characteristic skills: Naoe reveals a dramatic interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-lethal stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "The Enigma" also contains a original environmental puzzle that may eventually explain some unanswered questions from the main storyline.
Previous Japanese Animation Crossovers
This represents not the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with famous anime series. The series formerly showcased a 2020 collaborative story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla unofficially included a quest that unmistakably echoed the famous series One-Punch Man.
