The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
